We are very proud of Tomás J. Casas as he was selected as an organiser and technical mentor for Achucarro International Glia School 2026, celebrated at the beginning of September in the picturesque town of Plentzia (Spain). The aim of this school is to share frontier research in glial cell biology, including our beloved astrocytes.
Since his arrival to the lab, Tomás has put a lot of effort in fine tuning and performing calcium imaging experiments using two-photon microscopy. His dedication and results have not gone unnoticed, and he was selected to support Dr. Federico N. Soria and Dr. Arne Battefeld during the technical mentoring session focused on imaging techniques, and particularly on two-photon calcium imaging. During this session, Tomás could also share his experience with the analysis pipelines that he has developed for this kind of data.

You can already see some results of his work in our recently published paper “A developmental shift in glucocorticoid receptor expression preserves glucocorticoid sensitivity in the adult suprachiasmatic nucleus” and in Tomás’s GitHub repository.
In addition, Tomás could attend the different talks offered by international experts about the fascinating world of glial cell biology and to network with colleagues from Achucarro and beyond.
Well done Tomás!! 👏🏼
